I had a big class and things could get out of hand pretty quickly. Rather than yelling at them, I decided to give them 6 stars at the beginning of class. If they were good, they kept the stars. If they were bad, I'd erase them after I counted down from 10. You'd be surprised at how quickly they would quiet down or tell the other students to sit down.
